Welcome to your 6th grade year at Monte Vista. Since it is the best interest of the student that there exists a home-school communication, I will keep parents informed of their child’s progress throughout the year through the assignment agenda and parent signatures. Most test and quiz papers, as well as explanation of long-term projects will be sent home for review and parent signatures. The 6th grade teachers have set up a system where students and parents understand specific expectations for classroom and school. Consequences will result if rules are broken, and you will be notified.
Responsibility
It is important for the students to be responsible for themselves before they continue on to junior high. Responsibility and organization are skills that are heavily stressed throughout this year at Monte Vista.
Homework
Homework consists of an unfinished daily classwork and assigned homework. The students are help responsibly for quizzes, tests, long-term reports, and assignments. Classwork and homework for a portion of the language arts, history, and my math class is posted on this website.
Late Work
Any work turned in late will receive one grade lower than the original grade. This does not include make-up work due to excused absences. When long-term projects or reports are assigned, late work will not be accepted.
Absences
When a student is absent, he/she will have time to make up missed assignments. Please arrange to get the books and papers for the make-up work on a daily basis. All classwork and homework from my classes is posted on this website, so students can see what work needs to be completed.
Detention Slips
Detention slips will aid in home/school communication and allow parents to see their child’s missing or incomplete work, behavior, and organization. Once a student has earned 10 detention points, a detention will be assigned, and the slip will be sent home for a parent signature. The assigned 20-minute detention will be served on the date marked on the slip. If a student accumulates 50 detention slips, he/she will be assigned Saturday School and/or lose the privilege to participate in an upcoming 6th grade event such as the Turkey Bowl, camp activates, or field trips.
